The historical Zechariah Chafee House at 5 Cooke St. on the East Side of Providence was sold May 10 for $1.125 million.
The mansard roof Victorian house was originally built in 1852. Chafee, who was treasurer of the Sprague Manufacturing Co., made extensive renovations to the home. This property later served as the residence of renowned local architect Albert Harkness, who also made several alterations and additions between the years of 1946 and 1981.
Gerri Schiffman of Residential Properties Ltd. represented the buyers, Joshua Kennedy and Lauren Allister of Brookline, Massachusetts, and Rita Steele from Steele Realty Consultants represented the sellers, Josiah Child and Mary Nell Wagner.
